Summer – Humid operation (A)

The water to be cooled down will first be led to the air/water battery. The water will then be spread through the nozzles over the tower packing.

This water will be cooled down partially inside the battery through convection and afterwards mainly through the air which is supplied by the fans in counter flow (via evaporation).

The drop eliminators above the nozzles make sure that the water drops don't leave the cooling tower.

In humid operation, 5 to 10% of the capacity is evacuated because of the cooling of the water inside the battery.

Fall/spring – Humid/dry operation (B)

Part of the water to be cooled runs directly through the by-pass from the battery to the basin, without passing over the packing. A temperature probe, installed on the cold water exhaust tube, gives a signal to the regulator that proportionally opens the by-pass valve in order for as little water as possible to run over the packing.

This operation allows to limit the use of direct air-water exchange in favor of the dry exchange inside the battery.

The drop eliminators above the nozzles make sure that the water drops don't leave the cooling tower.

Depending on the external circumstances, 30 to 70 % of the capacity can be evacuated only through the dry battery.

Winter – Dry operation (C)

The by-pass valve is completely opened. The entire water flow is then directly led to the basin.

Consequently, no water is distributed over the packing nor is any water evaporated.

The full capacity is evacuated through the battery.
